Introduction

Your initial tuition classification at Colorado State University is determined by the Office of Admissions based on information you provide in the Residency Section of the CSU Admissions Application. Your initial tuition classification remains unless you meet the domicile requirements, you submit a Petition for In-State Tuition Classification including supporting documentation, and your petition is approved.

Petitioning for Colorado Tuition Classification

If you have been classified as a non-resident and believe you qualify for in-state tuition, it is important to do the following:

  • Attend a Tuition Classification Orientation to learn further information on tuition classification requirements and the petition process
  • Obtain a Petition for In-State Tuition Classification
  • Submit a completed petition by the deadline

Colorado residency for tuition classification purposes is governed by Colorado state law (Title 23, Article 7, of the Colorado Revised Statutes of 1973, as amended) and by judicial decisions that apply to all public institutions of higher education in Colorado and is subject to change at any time. The tuition classification decision made at one Colorado institution is non-transferable to other Colorado institutions. Colorado State University must apply the rules set forth in the residency statutes and is not free to make exceptions to the rules except as specifically permitted by state law.
